NEW MOON November 1, 2005, at 9 Scorpio 43
Sabian: A fellowship supper.
Chandra: On a human nose a wart that turns into a diamond.
Polarity symbols (Taurus)
Sabian: A Red Cross nurse.
Chandra: A man exhaling clouds of iridescent smoke.
The Taurus/Scorpio polarity is one of the most complex. It is the Polarity of Power, but, as we all know, power comes in many forms. To many, Taurus exemplifies the things we have "power over" - our resources, talents, self-esteem, possessions, etc. - while Scorpio deals with what we don't have power over - sexual drive, instincts, death, transformation. Scorpio can also deal with the issue of "power with" - power involving others on an equal basis.
All the symbols for the New Moon deal in some fashion with the theme of transformation. Jones comments the Sabian symbol shows "effective channeling of personal aspirations into...shared experience." What can be only a physical experience (eating) becomes a transformative experience (fellowship). Lonsdale writes "Destructive patterns come around to regenerative places," an apt commentary for the Chandra symbol.
The Taurus symbols keep on the theme. A Red Cross nurse has "complete dedication of the self to the worthwhile and enduring projects through which it can lose all sense of separateness." The smoker also loses his separateness and is "played through by visions...that gather to form breathtaking wholes... It is simply a matter of getting out of the way, paying attention, becoming exceedingly disciplined."
It seems fitting that at the New Year of the Celts, a time at which they deemed the veils between worlds were thinnest, we should be called upon to transform - whether at the simple level of fellowship with others or at the level of the seer. Whatever house the New Moon occupies in your chart is a part of your life to examine and regenerate
FULL MOON November 15, 2005, at 23 Taurus 46
Sabian: A mounted Indian with scalp locks.
Chandra: A man with no mouth.
Polarity Symbols (Scorpio)
Sabian: Crowds coming down the mountain to listen to one man.
Chandra: Coca bushes growing wild in the Andes Mountains.
The New Moon gave us the impetus to transform. The Full Moon says, "Put it to use; keep it grounded firmly here."
The Taurus symbols basically say, "Don't talk about it, do it." The warrior lets his deeds speak for him; the man cannot talk, only act. Here Taurus depicts one of its "power over" phases, the power to act.
The Scorpio symbols continue the theme. Please note the people are coming DOWN the mountain. (Rudhyar completely reversed the meaning of this symbol.) We aren't to stay in the ecstatic one-with-the-Other heights of the New Moon. We are to get down to this earthly level. The Chandra symbol illustrates the reverse image - to stay "up there" is to "deny what lives within," to stay in the illusive dreams of the coca leaves.
Looking Further:
The New Moon is part of a wide Fixed Cross: Sun/Moon very loosely oppose and Pallas Athene closely opposes Mars; squaring these are Saturn opposed Neptune. The Sun/Saturn square is exact November 2, and the Sun exactly squares Neptune the 6th. This Fixed Cross basically stays in effect until mid-January as Jupiter soon moves into opposition to Mars. A Fixed Cross issues an imperative to confront imbalances and to face longstanding issues - a very powerful energy when the message of the Lunar Cycle is "Transform." The very fixity of the signs, however, sometimes makes us slow to change (which Sun square Saturn exacerbates); but once movement starts, it usually continues until transformation is complete (which Sun square Neptune helps). The additional factor of Pluto semi-square Sun certainly adds to the impetus to transform.
The Full Moon finds Uranus stationing direct just as the Moon comes into opposition to the Sun. This certainly gives us a push toward action and may bring psychic insights, but it carries the risk of unwise decisions and/or chaotic events. We need to be sure we don't let Uranus "blow our circuits" physically, mentally or psychically. Pluto closely quincunxes the Moon, sending its purging power to our subconscious. On the 18th, Mars squares Saturn in the ongoing Fixed Cross. This is a waning square, indicating a crisis of perception, not action. Thus the other energies present with the Full Moon color its message. We need to bring our transformation to this plane - but the "doing" may be more changing of our perceptions (Mars square Saturn), and we must be careful that we are doing/changing in a thought-out fashion and must be ready for unexpected results.
