New Moon & Full Moon Sabian & Chandra Symbols Report & Looking Further

NEW MOON December 1, 2005, at 9 Sag 31
Sabian: A golden-haired goddess of opportunity.
Chandra: A star turning many different colors.
     Polarity symbols (Gemini)
     Sabian: An airplane falling.
Chandra: A young woman notices the handsome man has fangs.

Both Gemini and Sagittarius deal with exploration and evaluation. Gemini tends to deal with things as they "seem" in everyday reality, while Sagittarius is associated with exploring and evaluating things on a more philosophical, ethical level.

The New Moon Sagittarius symbols reflect the "higher plane" of that sign, using a golden-haired goddess and a star. They are offering us gifts - opportunities, spectacles. We seem to have a wholly positive environment here. In total contrast, the Gemini symbols are dangerous. The airplane is falling. The young woman has apparently been attracted to a handsome man, but - on closer examination - finds he is a vampire.

The theme of this particular polarity is to be aware, to be alert, to see what lies beneath the surface, and to be ready to act accordingly. This applies to all the symbols. For with the Sagittarius symbols, we have to be ready to "hear the knock of opportunity" of the goddess. We have to evaluate the many colors of the star - are some of them unattractive or too enticing? The Sagittarian energies have to be utilized to their utmost to fulfill the promise they offer. If one only sits and admires, if one doesn't take advantage and use what is offered, there will be no benefit. By the same token, while the Gemini symbols show danger because the usual assumptions of Gemini are not working, it does not mean a disaster will happen. The pilot may bring the airplane back under control; the young woman may still escape.

FULL MOON December 15, 2005, at 23 Gemini 48
Sabian: Children skating on ice.
Chandra: A nude man with a tail.
     Polarity Symbols (Sagittarius)
Sabian: A bluebird standing at the door of the house.
Chandra: CA statue of Isis covered by a transparent veil.

The New Moon asked us to examine, evaluate, and use our environment, with Gemini emphasizing the everyday opportunity and Sagittarius emphasizing the "higher" spheres. The Full Moon continues this theme in a different vein - reminding us that different levels of reality often overlap. In each symbol two levels are expressly given or intimated. Ice, itself, is a "between" substance. It is a form of water, a universal symbol for the sub/unconscious, yet it is a solid. Here children (our "inner child" or natural selves) skim the surface of the subconscious, yet it is there. As the cycles turn, it will revert to water and we will immerse in that part of ourselves. The Chandra symbol combines animal (the tail) and human, much like the centaur did in ancient mythology. Combined, these symbols show all the levels at which we can operate, the realities we can connect with - sometimes simultaneously

The Sagittarius symbols do the same thing. The Sabian symbol has "inside" and "outside," with the bluebird "outside." Birds of any kind are symbols of spirituality, and the bluebird has the added connotation of "happiness." Will we in our safe, normal daily routine (the house) be willing to come out and explore a higher reality? Isis, of course, was one of the most widespread Mother Goddesses; she originated in Egypt, but her worshippers were numerous in Rome, as well as many other Mediterranean locales. Here she is "veiled" - are we willing to "lift" the veil and enter into close communion with Goddess (or personal spirituality in any form)?

Thus the message for the whole Lunar Cycle is clear: Be aware, be alert, be ready to take action in whatever realm presents itself to you. Remember to keep the safety of your self (or Self) always in mind - but don't let fear or caution paralyze you and keep you from growing.

Looking Further:
The first few days of December are very "busy," astrologically speaking. Mercury stations direct on December 3, and the Mars-Jupiter opposition becomes exact on December 4. Any Gemini/Sagittarius Lunar Cycle has a strong energy, but this New Moon packs much more "punch" than most as it is squared by Uranus in Pisces and Mars is closely quincunx. Fortunately, a trine from Saturn offers some stabilization of all this explosive energy.

While the Mars/Jupiter opposition does not aspect the New Moon, its pervasive energy can support our efforts for some time to come (remember Jupiter is the "ruler&uot; of the Sagittarius New Moon). This oppositional energy is further heightened as it forms a loose grand cross with a Saturn/Neptune opposition - a combination that can push us to question our assumptions of reality and to find real answers for our lives. We might keep in mind that Jupiter and Pluto will be in mutual reception throughout the coming year, encouraging us to dig deep and eliminate illusions and limitations while giving us the faith to do so.

The Full Moon is also very powerful, as the Sun is closely conjunct Pluto, again pushing us to examine the deeper levels of reality. The Sun is shining where we keep our deepest fears and secrets. It's 'truth or consequences' time. The square between Saturn and Jupiter is now almost exact - a time to examine the assumptions that hold us back and to test the parameters of our realities. The grand cross at the New Moon is, of course, still in operation. Venus has just entered a new sign, Aquarius, and is tightly conjunct Chiron. Chiron, of course, is always a bridge between realities, and Venus turns retrograde on the 24th, asking us to look below the surface at our values and desires. Their combined energy gives us a chance to heal old wounds, bridge differences, transform desires.
