In classical astrology, much is made of certain planets called benefics which confer good fortune and other planets called malefics that indicate where trouble is lurking.
After 1930, the population of the malefics was dramatically bolstered by the addition of Pluto to the ranks of planets to worry about.
But what are we to make of Neptune? On the one hand Neptune is often present when the sordid or merely boring is transfigured into something exalted and enobling.
On the other hand Neptune is frequently present in cases of addiction, chicanery and religious fanaticism.
How can we honor the gifts bestowed upon us by the god of the sea without falling prey to his spells and maledictions?
