Chris Brennan talks about:
Hellenistic Astrology: Rediscovering the Origins of Western Astrology
The system of astrology that the majority of western astrologers use today originated in the Mediterranean in the first century BC.
This system represents a synthesis of the earlier Babylonian and Egyptian astrological traditions.
It includes many of the techniques and concepts that modern astrologers still employ today, including the signs of the zodiac,
the houses, aspects, planetary significations, transits, synastry, and electional astrology.
However, the system was not originally used solely in order to study the character or the psyche of the native,
but rather it was designed and used in order to study the totality of an individual's life, which included both internal dispositions and concrete external events.
This system has only recently been rediscovered and revived through the translation of ancient astrological texts in Greek and Latin.
This lecture will provide an overview of what has been reconstructed of this ancient system so far, and how it can improve the accuracy of astrology in the modern world.
