Corrine Kenner talks about:
Tarot, Astrology and the Wheel of the Year
Tarot has always been connected to astrology. The earliest tarot decks on record depicted the Sun, the Moon, and the Star, alongside mythic gods with cosmic connections like Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus.
Tarot’s more scholarly association with astrology, however, is far more recent.
In 1785, the French occultist Jean-Baptiste Alliette devised a full-fledged set of correspondences between astrology and tarot.
And as time passed, other mystics and philosophers began to notice an intriguing number of correspondences between the structure of the tarot deck, the Hebrew alphabet, and the Qabalah.
In each case, astrological correlations ran like a silver thread through all of their compositions.
On January 15, we'll explore some of those connections with Corrine Kenner, the author of the critically acclaimed new book Tarot and Astrology.
We'll focus on the tarot's Minor Arcana—the Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles of a standard tarot deck.
Astrologically, the numbered pip cards of the Minor Arcana are just as rich and complex as the Major Arcana cards.
Each one is packed with symbolic associations to zodiac signs, planets, and rulerships, all arranged systematically around the Wheel of the Year.
In fact, understanding the Wheel of the Year is the key to understanding the astrological associations of the Minor Arcana.
Bring your favorite tarot deck, and we'll practice an astrology-based tarot spread.
If you don't own a deck, Corrine will have copies of her Wizards Tarot available for sale. She'll also sign copies of Tarot and Astrology.
Corrine Kenner specializes in bringing metaphysical subjects down to earth.
She’s a Minneapolis astrologer and tarot reader who’s written thirteen books, including Tarot and Astrology, Tarot for Writers, and Crystals for Beginners.
She also created the Wizards Tarot, the Epicurean Tarot and a forthcoming deck called the Victorian Christmas Tarot.
One of her books, Tall Dark Stranger: Tarot for Love and Romance, was a COVR Visionary Award finalist, marking it as one of the top three divination books of 2006.
Her work has also been included in the Encyclopedia of Tarot.
Corrine has been a keynote speaker at national and international tarot conferences, and she's taught tarot and astrology classes in England, Canada, and across the United States.
Many of her books have been translated for a global audience; they're available in French, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Romanian, and Russian.
Here in Minnesota, Metro magazine called her one of the best psychics in the Twin Cities.
She's also been featured in the Star Tribune, the Pioneer Press, Downtown Minneapolis and CitySouth magazines.
Corrine was raised on a family farm in North Dakota.
In her late teens and twenties, she lived in Brazil and Los Angeles, where she earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from California State University.
Now she lives in Minneapolis with her husband, a software developer, and their four daughters who range in age from nine to twenty-two.
We are proud of her fortitude in recently passing Level 1 NCGR exam.
