An Introduction to the Lunar Cycles Reports
using Sabian & Chandra Symbols

I have always lived in the world of symbols. My earliest memories involve visions, symbolic dreams, working with spirits. I have studied myths and legends of many cultures.

When I started studying astrology in 1985, I felt it sadly lacked enough symbols to fully express its complexity and depth. Thus, I was exhilarated when I first came across the Sabian symbols in 1990. Some years later a friend loaned me her book about the Chandra symbols. I had a friend who was an extremely talented channeler. He and I worked for two years verifying the validity of both sets of symbols. We found the actual symbols given to the original channelers, Elsie Wheeler for the Sabians and John Sandbach for the Chandras, were valid. The commentaries by others were not reliable, although they are sometimes helpful. It should be noted that Dane Rudhyar in his Astrological Mandala changed many of Wheeler's symbols to fit his framework. We did not find those changes valid. It was obvious from our work that channeled information must be left as given. If it is clearly channeled, and the original symbols were, it must be left intact or it loses its validity.

I do not claim these are divinely inspired or channeled interpretations that will answer all your questions about these symbol systems. As you use them, you may be given other meanings which are valid for you. These are the ones I have found through meditation and which my clients have responded to time after time. They are offered as springboards for your own understanding.

When I have been given a "key" in meditation, I have tried to find helpful information in various books to explain that key. You will find certain authors mentioned often. Because they are cited numerous times I do not give full credits each time.

The books of symbols:
(note that if a quote is given without an author, it will be Jones for Sabian symbols and Lonsdale for Chandra symbols.)

  • Jones, Marc Edmund; The Sabian Symbols (Stanwood, WA: Sabian Publishing Co., 1969)
  • Lonsdale, Ellias; Inside Degrees (Berkeley, CA: North Atlantic Books, 1997)

Helpful books I often use:

  • Allan, Richard; Star Names (New York: Dover, orig. pub. 1899)
  • Andrews, Ted; Animal Speak (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn, 1994)
  • Brady, Bernadette; Brady's Book of Fixed Stars (NY: Samuel Weiser, 1998)
  • Buffalo Horn Man and Firedancer; Animal Energies (Lexington, KY: Dancing Otter Pub., 1993)
  • Cunningham, Scott; Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs (St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn, 1991)
  • Johnson, Buffie; Lady of the Beasts (San Francisco: Harper & Collins, 1990)
  • Melody; Love Is in the Earth (Wheat Ridge, CO: Earth-Love Publishing House, 1996)
  • Walker, Barbara; Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets (San Francisco: Harper Collins, 1983)
  • Walker, Barbara; Secrets of the Tarot (San Francisco: Harper & Row, 1984)
