Monthly Meetings

~ 2008 Calendar ~

Sunday April 27
3:00-5:30
at Friends Meeting House
1725 Grand Ave
St Paul MN 55105

Featured Speaker: Ira Gordon

Topic: The Music of the Spheres: Aspects in the Horoscope

Cost: $6 NCGR Members, $8 Non Members

Bring your own horoscope; We will explore the music in your chart

Aspects: The Music of the Spheres
2500 years ago, the mathematician/mystic, Pythagoras, taught that number and ratio are the basis of all that is. Musical tones, for example, were seen to be determined by proportional vibrations which, in turn, had a direct bearing on the journey of the soul. And the most perfect proportions were to be found in the spatial relationships and velocities of the planets. 2100 years later, this music of the spheres idea became the guiding inspiration for the astronomical and astrological work of Johannes Kepler.

In this program, we will consider how the insights of Pythagoras and Kepler might be relevant in the 21st century. We will pause to see -- and hear -- how any astrological aspect can be likened to a musical chord. And through sample charts and other illustrations, we will explore how any horoscope is a symphonic score -- a score that can be performed clumsily or with consummate skill. Bring your own horoscope

And may they be the singing masters of my soul.
W.B. Yeats

Most meetings include both informal discussions and more structured presentations.

There are four types of structured presentations:

  • Lectures by local astrologers and by other guests with expertise in astrology or in disciplines related to astrology (such as psychology, physics, and astronomy).
  • Panel discussions in which three or more guests share vexations, musings, and insights.
  • Astro-Talk sessions where participants break into small groups of their choice to discuss selected topics of astrological interest.
  • Unique celebrations, such as the one held each year at the winter solstice. These gatherings are reputed to be playful, challenging, and lots of fun.

Over the course of the year, the day of the meeting will vary from month to month, so please visit this website, or join our Yahoo group to get the day and date for each meeting. Most events are held at:
